Our Range of Live Plants
We stock a wide range of plants (subject to availability), these below, being just a few. If we do not have a plant in stock, that you wish to purchase, please ask a member of our staff as we may be able to order them in.
Elodea Egeria densa: Stem plant with 3-5 narrowly lanceolate leaves arranged in whorls. Shoot length approx 60cm and more. Grows 10 cm per week. The lower the redox value, the faster the growth rate. Propagation by top cuttings. The plant will then grow side shoots, which can be detached and planted.
Pigmy chain sword plant
Indian water wisteria
Hygrophila difformis: Highly pinnate, light green leaves.
Shoot length: 50 cm.
Grows shoots approx 50cm long, 10 cm per week.
Propagation by Top cuttings, Side shoots.
Special note: Do not plant too densely, as even the bottom leaves require plenty of light.
Broad-leafed anubias
Anubias barteri var barteri: Stemmed, firm, leathery leaves of more or less distinct
heart-shape. Grows 5-6 leaves per year approx 15-35 cm high. Propagation
by side shoots from the rhizome.
Special note: The name spec. barteri is a
collective denomination for a number of very similar, but difficult to
distinguish, varieties of different sizes.
Dwarf anubias
Anubias barteri var. nana: Low-growing, creeping plant. Height: 8-12 cm.
Grows 8-10 leaves per year. Propagation by side shoots.
Special note: Will also grow well tied onto rocks or wood.

Beckett's cryptocoryne
Cryptocoryne beckettii:
Lanceolate leaves are usually a rich green color and have an interesting brown flame-like pattern. Grows
1-2 leaves per month approx. 10-20 cm high. Propagation by runners.
Cryptocoryne wendtii brown
Cryptocoryne wendtii: Medium-sized brown wendtii. Leaves mostly chocolate-brown
to olive-brown. Grows 1-2 leaves per month approx 10-15cm high.
Propagation by runners
Broad-leaf Amazon sword
Echinodorus bleheri:
Stemmed leaves up to 5 cm wide. Grows 1 leaf per week up
to 60cm high. Established specimens can have up to 50 leaves.
Regularly grows adventitious plants on the flower stem.
Giant Hygrophilia
Hygrophilia corymbosa: Under water the leaves are light-green and dense. In open aquariums it grows easily above the water surface, where it forms
blue-green leaves and small blue flowers. It grows fast and the shoots
must be pinched out regularly if you want to keep the plant under water.
An extremely hardy plant, suitable for beginners.
Ambulia
Limnophila sessiflora: Very easy to care for stem plant. Will
get long internodes in high light regardless of nutrient levels. Stays
bushy in lower light. Tips of plant close to light source may get a red
tinge.
Propagation by cuttings/lateral shoots.
Amazon Sword
Echinodorus amazonicus : has short rhizomes,
numerous lance shaped leaves that are pale to dark green with sharply
pointed tips, and fairly short stems. It is an amphibious plant that
will grow either partially or fully submersed. When used in groups, they create an interesting
background behind other aquarium plants.
Rotala
Rotala walichii: forms luxurious, fluffy,
pink groupings which grow to the water's surface. This plant produces
its most colorful, vibrant growth along the water's surface, where it
also develops the greatest number of side shoots. When it gets too tall it can be pruned by cutting off the tops and leaving
behind the rooted portions or uprooting the rooted portions and
replanting the tops. Propagation can be performed by simply snipping off
stems that are too tall and replanting them in the substrate.
Rotala sp
Rotala macrandra: is best planted in large groups and can be propagate by using cuttings which
are planted in a spot with a lot of light. The cuttings should
preferable be 4-6 inches long. A Rotala macrandra that thrives in your
aquarium will require regular trimmings and create a lot of cuttings
for you to plant or give away. If your plant looses it leaves near the
bottom its best to re plant the tops of the plant to rejuvenate it. The
lower part without leaves will also rejuvenate and start growing again
if you can give it time.
Aponogetum
Aponogetum Crispus: will grow quickly, producing
numerous olive green-brown ruffled leaves. These are normally up to 4 cm
wide and 20-35 cm long. In weak light, the leaves are produced on
longer stems that may spread across the water surface in search of more
illumination. Aponogeton crispus may flower in the aquarium.
Moneywort
Bacopa sp. has been used as an aquarium plant for many
years. Apart from relatively good light it makes few demands. Like most stem plants, it is most decorative when planted in
small groups. Propagate by cuttings.
Flourish™ is a comprehensive plant supplement for the natural freshwater
aquarium. It contains a rich assortment of important micro elements,
trace elements and other nutrients. These include calcium, magnesium,
iron and other important elements that have been shown to be beneficial
to aquatic plants.
Flourish Excel™ is a source of bioavailable
organic carbon. All plants require a source of carbon. This is typically
obtained from CO2, but, may also
be derived from simple organic compounds (such as photosynthetic intermediates). The
use of either CO2 injection or Flourish Excel™ does
not necessarily negate the use of the other. Because the processes of
producing photosynthetic intermediates and building onto them occur
simultaneously, one can derive a substantial benefit with the use of
Flourish Excel™ either alone or in conjunction with CO2 .
Flourish Tabs™ are growth stimulating
tablets for plant roots. They contain essential trace elements,
amino acids, and vitamins. They are rich in iron, manganese, magnesium,
calcium, potassium, inositol, choline B12, biotin, and other
factors that have been determined to be beneficial to aquatic plant
roots. They
contain no phosphate or nitrate that would promote algae proliferation.
Each pack of ten tablets treats a 12 X 30 inch plant bed twice.
Flourish Iron™ is a highly concentrated (10,000 mg/L) ferrous iron
(Fe+2) gluconate supplement. It should be used in those cases where the
iron requirements exceed that which can be delivered by Flourish at
the recommended dose or signs of iron deficiency appear (such as short
and slender stems or yellowing between veins.) Contains no phosphate or
nitrate.
Flourish Nitrogen™ is a concentrated
(15,000 mg/L) blend of nitrogen sources. It provides nitrogen in
both the nitrate form and the plant-preferred ammonium form. However,
no free ammonia is released because the ammonium in Flourish Nitrogen™ is
complexed and unavailable until utilized by the plants. Flourish Nitrogen™ also
provides nitrate for those plants that can readily utilize nitrate as
well.
Flourish Potassium contains 50,000
mg/L of potassium suitable for the natural planted aquarium. Potassium
is one of several elements that are vitally important to maintaining
a vigorous level of growth in a planted aquarium. Potassium can become
depleted in a rapidly growing system or when the source water has a
low mineral content. In these cases potassium could become the limiting
factor to growth. Use Flourish Potassium™ to prevent potassium
depletion (signs of which include yellowing in older leaves) and maintain
the highest level of growth.
Flourish Phosphorus™ is a safe solution
(4500 mg/L phosphate) of potassium phosphate that takes the guess work
out of phosphate dosing. Unlike competing products that mix nitrate
and phosphate in a fixed ratio, Flourish Phosphorus™ (being nitrate
free) allows you to dose phosphorus according to the needs of your plants
without the risk of overdosing nitrates. When used as directed Flourish
Phosphorus™ will enhance and accelerate the growth of aquatic
plants without enhancing algae growth.
Flourite® is a specially fracted, stable porous clay gravel for
the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted
aquaria, but may be used in any aquarium environment. Flourite® is
most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but
it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite
are not necessary and unlike competing products, Flourite® never
has to be replaced. It remains effective for the life of the aquarium. Flourite® is
not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water.
Leaf Zone Promotes the lush, beautiful growth
of aquatic plants. Leaf Zone is formulated for rapid absorption through
plant leaves. Contains chelated iron and potassium essential for lush
green leaves.
Root Tabs Aquarium plants require certain essential
nutrients for vibrant growth. Root Tabs are formulated to supply key
nutrients, including iron and potassium, to help new aquatic plants get
off to a vigorous start and to keep established plants flourishing
CO2 Booster Adds
essential carbon in a form plants can absorb from the water. Supplies
simple carbon compounds and slowly releases co2 to the plants. Can be
used alone or with co2 gas. Safe for use with freshwater fish and will
not alter ph.
First Layer Pure Layerite In tropical streambeds, aquatic
plants grow in a special clay called laterite. First Layer provides an
all-natural planting medium for aquatic plants. Ideal gravel additive
for naturally planted aquariums.
sera CO2 Tabs are simply placed into the according slot of the CO2
diffusion reactor. Upon contact with aquarium water, each tablet
releases approx. 100 ml (representing 2500 counting bubbles) of CO2, plus valuable trace elements and vitalizing substances - providing a continual, properly dosed presence in the tank.
sera CO2 Start Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the basic nutrient for plants. A well-dosed addition of CO2
also allows you to adjust the water to a slightly acidic pH range,
which is preferred by most plants and fish kept in aquariums. sera
start, our economically priced CO2 fertilization system requires no gas bottle, and is easy-to-install and convenient to use.
